Business Gifts: Best Practices
Business gifts represent the most popular application of promotional products. Business-to-business gifting is among the most effective uses of promotional merchandise for wooing and retaining customers with a no-strings-attached pitch.
According to a survey of 6,000 sales and marketing executives, 84% of business organizations are gift givers primarily in order to thank customers, build goodwill, and develop business. Preferred choices ranged from office/business accessories (favored by 47% of respondents) to gifts for the home (18%). The most popular selection for larger dollar amounts was a gift certificate.
Do buyers think purchasing business gifts is money well spent? For those respondents who actually measured results, 91% said they believe their gifting was at least “somewhat effective.” And 57% claimed that the bestowal of gifts was either “effective” or “very effective.”
But, as Jeff Kannett, president of Morton Grove, asserted, a business gift “is not always given because you expect to get something out of it. A business gift during the holidays to me is more sacred in that you hope you’re giving it with no obligation - as a thank-you for the 11 or 12 months [of the business relationship] that just passed.”
Whatever the reason, gifting is still very much on the rise. “We’ve always believed strongly that even if the economy is down, you still have to maintain those customer relationships.”
